The history Ososo And Pito Foundation

THE BIRTH OF PITO

It is common knowledge now that the world in general and Nigeria in particular, is gradually embracing self-sustainability, a thing which is a direct result of acquiring skills and setting up small scale businesses, where people’s attention will be taken away from ‘White Collar” jobs.  Such people if trained and sponsored will equally be employers of labour.    A lot of people and organizations are keying into this new reality and thus creating wealth for people and removing over dependence on searching for jobs that are not necessarily available.  Placing this truth side by side, the fact that entertainment has a way of projecting people to the limelight if properly managed, I have come to the realization that if “we build, they will come”.  Aimed with this desire geared towards identifying talents and encouraging the youths, I started thinking of what better platform could help us give back to Ososo community through helping to identify and encourage talented sons and daughters of Ososo whose talents are withering due to lack of conducive environment for promotion.    With this, we can eradicate poverty and give power to creative people of Ososo descent, both home and abroad and this will lead to self-sustenance.  Having identified the aforementioned, PROJECT INDEPENDENCE TO OSOSO (PITO) was birthed.

PROJECT INDEPENDENCE TO OSOSO (PITO)

The idea I had in mind when creating this platform is to celebrate, project and encourage Ososo arts, talents and culture.  PITO is a creativity platform with the aim of exploring the world of entertainment in Ososo as it connects with global audience, and to help in supporting and encouraging sons and daughters of Ososo who are talented and would like to develop their various skills with the aim of eventually selling same to the world.  In its intricate design, the idea will help in promoting the independence of the individuals concerned and consequently affect the entire Ososo community positively.   Entertainment from an economic point of view generates employment as well as revenues and also is responsible for shaping our views about the society we live in.  It is on record that the first event of PITO NIGHT took place on the 30th December, 2020 at the Filani Hotel and Suites in Ososo, Akoko-Edo LGA, Edo State.

WHAT IS PITO DOING NOW

So far, PITO has been able to record some musical and spoken words tracks for Timzie Frosh, Victor Voice and Sapphire and also help to promote music produced by Juixse 9nne.  We intend to continue working with those who have quality projects.  Also, as we speak, we have embarked on the projection of our native attires: Ulalo and Ukperori.  This has brought recognition to the traditional attires and most people are demanding for them and this is encouraging to those who weave the materials at home.  For continuity sake, we are presently training people on how to weave Odulalo and Ukperori.  This will not only make them self-reliant and sustain the production of our attires, but also add economic value to their lives.  We have Five (5) trainees presently:  Wilfred Gift Orifa, Gbenga Mary, Bodunde Abiodun and Olorunfemi Favour

PITO MAGAZINE

The production of the Magazine is going to be half-yearly for a start (though our aim is to make the production a monthly affair).  The objective is to promote culture basically and other sundry events happening within and outside our beloved town, Ososo.
